Communal Mullock Dumps In some areas, opal mining mullock is stockpiled in communal areas (known as ‘communal mullock dumps’). Communal mullock dumps are designated AMAs under the Mining Act 1992. The Department of Planning and Environment recognises that many titleholders are utilising communal mullock dumps to support their mining operations. The department is currently considering an extension to the transitional period for up to two years for communal mullock dumps that were established prior to 15 November 2010. The proposed extension will enable the department and miners to work together to ensure positive outcomes for industry, the community and the environment.
